The Lake Foundation

There is a distance between us that has never closed. Not the kilometres — the other kind: the one that opens quietly between a thought and the person it was meant for. Everything we make either deepens that distance or moves it, and almost none of us notice which.

So we make small things. They end up inside ordinary days, in the rooms we live in, and quietly they change what we think a thing is for. Most of what is made is forgotten by morning. Some of it stays. The Lake Foundation is where we look for the things that stay — though we could not tell you which ones those will be.
